COMPUTING FACILITY

 
  The faculty, researchers, and students in the Department of CS & Engg. have full access to a wide variety of resources.


All of the computer systems in the department are interconnected by a switched Ethernet local network, which is connected to the Internet via fiber optic technology to the campus backbone. The department has seven main servers, six of which are linux (7.2) based, running on PIII and PIV processors, and one windows NT based running on PII.
Every faculty member is allotted an individual PC. For the students, there are two well equipped, centrally air conditioned laboratories in the department. The "Basic Programming Laboratory" has over 60 PCs. and the "Software Engineering Laboratory" has 29 PCs. The machines are a mix of P4 and P3. The department also has one SGI IRIS Workstation, a DecAlpha System, two high-end HP-Visualize Workstations, an IBM workstation and a SUN SPARC STATION 5 (Solaris 2.3).


Internet access is available 24 hours a day through the University's 512 Kbps SCPC VSAT Link.


Two DMPs and two laser printers are available for the printing needs of the students. Most faculty members are allotted personal printers. The department also has two HP scanners.


The department has a collection of softwares as per the demand of the courses and interest of the students.
