Capacity Building Program for Design and Entrepreneurship (CBDE)

REPORT ON A 2 DAY CBDE PEDAGOGY WORKSHOP Organized at Tezpur University on 18 - 19 March, 2025

Introduction:

The National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 aims to revolutionize the education system by fostering innovation and entrepreneurship. The Capacity Building Program for Design and Entrepreneurship (CBDE) is designed to cultivate creative problem-solving capabilities in Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) through design thinking and entrepreneurial training. CBDE is launched under the Malaviya Mission Teacher Training Programme (MMTTP) to empower faculty members and students with innovative methodologies and entrepreneurial skills.

Key Focus Areas:

Design Thinking: A structured problem-solving approach focused on user needs and creative solutions.

Entrepreneurial Mindset: Encouraging innovation and business acumen within academic settings.

Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Facilitating teamwork among faculty, students, and industry mentors.

Objective & Implementation Approach

Objective:

To enhance the creative and entrepreneurial capabilities of faculty and HEIs through structured mentoring and engagement programs.

Implementation Strategy:

One-on-One Faculty Mentoring: Expert mentors will guide faculty members in curriculum design and teaching methodologies.

Student Innovation Teams: Mentorship support for 3rd & 4th year UG, 2nd year PG, and PhD students.

Expert Mentorship Network: Each HEI will be assigned up to 3 mentors for two years.

Dedicated Mentoring Hours: Each mentor will contribute 40 person-days annually.

Centralized Coordination: The Malaviya Mission Teacher Training Centre (IIITDM Kancheepuram) will:

i) Select HEIs and mentors.
ii) Conduct webinars on best practices.
iii) Monitor program progress.
iv) Disburse mentor honorariums.

Program Targets (2024-26)

Pre-incubation of 20 ideas per year : 100 ideas in five years

Generation of 35-40 patentable ideas : 7-8 patents in per year

Technology Readiness Level (TRL) Upgradation Support : 4-5 ideas in per year

Faculty Capacity Building: 30-35 faculty members trained over two years

Integration into Curriculum:

i) Dedicated design thinking units in UG, PG, and PhD programs
ii) AICTE/Ministry of Education’s Innovation Cell IEV program as an optional minor degree (20 credits).
