Established in 1997, the department offers M.Tech. in two specializations (Electronics Design and Technology, Bioelectronics) and B.Tech. in Electronics and Communication Engineering. The department offers Ph.D. in major areas.

To develop as a center of excellence in Electronics and Communication Engineering through creative and innovative practices in teaching, learning and research.

The department is well-equipped with sophisticated research facilities developed using support from DST-FIST-I and DST-FIST-II sponsored grants along with other major grants.
There are a number of filed, and granted patents, and design registrations by the faculty members of the department.
The department offers PhD in emerging research areas encompassing multi-disciplinary domains involving hardware prototyping, and software analysis.
The department is supported by DST-FIST-II. Faculty members have worked as investigators on sponsored research projects supported by funding agencies like DST, MeiTY, AICTE, UGC, ISRO, and others.
The faculty members of the department have their articles published in high impact research journals like Advanced Materials, Science Advances, IEEE Transactions on Electron Devices, Biosensors and Bioelectronics, and IEEE Sensors Journal.
The department has hosted a number of technical events for all-round development of the students, and faculty members. From an international conference to webinars, there have been a number of significant events which have promoted the growth of the students, and the faculty members.
The students, and faculty members of the department have developed innovative products over time in line with 'Make in India' initiative, and the mission to have a design-to-develop roadmap.
