Ph.D. in Molecular Biology and Biotechnology

Preamble

PhD in Molecular Biology and Biotechnology offer by the department provides opportunity to carry out advance research in diverse areas of modern biology. It also contains a course component of 16 credits aimed at imparting knowledge on methodologies, ethical guidelines and critical analysis of research articles.

1. Introduction

PhD in Molecular Biology and Biotechnology (MBBT) is an interdisciplinary research programme for developing skills to carry out cutting edge research in modern biology. The course will enable the scholars to develop confidence for taking up biological problems independently, initiate bio-entrepreneurship, contribute to academia and/or in industry.

Knowledge and Understanding
  1. In dept knowledge and understanding of recent developments in their research area
  2. In dept knowledge and understanding of gap in their research domain
  3. In dept knowledge and understanding to undertake further research in their domain
Skill and Technique
  1. Scholars will be skilled in research proposal
  2. Scholars will be skilled in conducting cutting edge research.
  3. Scholars will be skilled in supervising research activities.
Competence
  1. Scholars will be competent to critically analyse biological problem in their research area.
  2. Scholars will be able to carry out independent research,
  3. Scholars will be able to scientifically contribute to their subject area.
  4. Scholars will have expertise for employment in academia and/or in biotech industries.

  1. Scholars with expertise in their research domain.
  2. Skilled human resource to contribute to the cutting-edge research in modern biology.

4. Program Outcomes (POs)

Admission Procedure

Candidates seeking admission into the PhD programme of the department will have to appear the University entrance examinations. Shortlisted candidates shall be called for personal interview in the Departments. However, candidates with valid fellowship such as UGC-(NET/JRF)/ UGC-CSIR(NET/JRF)/DBT-JRF/ICMR-JRF will be exempted from written test and admitted on the basis of the performance in the personal interview.

Note: Candidate desiring full time Ph. D. will be given preference

Eligibility

Masters in any branches of Life Sciences/ Physical Sciences/ Chemical Sciences/ Mathematical Sciences/ Agricultural Sciences / Veterinary or Sciences / Engineering Sciences /Medical Sciences or in any allied field. B. Tech./ B. E. degree with 80% marks in CGPA (with GATE score > 90.00 percentile) in Chemical Engineering/ Chemical Sciences/ Bioinformatics or any allied field. MBBS or BVSc. degree with at least 60% marks or equivalent CGPA. Apart from the above, candidates having consistently good academic record will be preferred.
