About the Department

The Department of Law was established in the year 2016-17 under the school of Humanities and Social Sciences with a vision to produce legal luminaries who will add value in the field of teaching, judiciary, law making, law enforcement officers and more importantly work for the society as a good citizen.
Presently, the Department is offering two year LL.M. programme. The objective of the programme is to make the department as a vibrant centre of legal education and research and give an opportunity to all aspirants who want to be a good academician, researcher and work for social transformation. The first batch got admitted from the academic session 2018-19 and will soon complete their programme by the end of spring semester 2020. Few students have cleared their NET examination, All India Bar Examination, done internship programme and also got placement. The department is making progress with existing four young and energetic permanent faculties along with Guest and Visiting faculties who are giving meaning to the designed curriculum not only from theoretical aspects but also teaching inter-disciplinary aspects. Moreover, it is the department’s priority to inculcate among student’s teaching methods & ethics, and promote inter-disciplinary research and inspire students for competitive examinations.
During Covid-19 lockdown, the department of law has well planned to complete the syllabus thorough online and also to conduct examination with the help and support of existing facilities in the University.

VISION :- To make the Department of Law a vibrant Centre of excellence in the field of legal education particularly in the North-East India.

MISSION :- To expose the students not only to theoretical aspects but also to pedagogical and research aspects of socio-legal relevance.

Programmes offered

Master of Laws (LL.M.), Duration- Two-Year, specializations offered:-
1) Criminology and Criminal Law
2) Human Rights, International Humanitarian Law and Law Relating to Migrants.

Programmes Intake and Eligibility Criteria for Admission.

Intake Capacity = 25 seats (academic session 2020-21)
Eligibility Criteria = Bachelor’s degree in Law with a minimum of 50% marks. Admission Criteria as per Tezpur University Admission rules laid down from time to time.
