Our Constitution is the supreme law of the country. It upholds and protects the rights of all and sundry. It is the backbone of India’s vibrant democracy as it guides legislatures, executives, the judiciary, and ordinary people to perform their duties. The aims and objectives of the Constitution are inscribed in the Preamble, which stresses the principles of justice, liberty, equality, and fraternity.
Intending to provide quality legal education to the young minds of this country in general and students from the North-eastern states in particular, Tezpur University set up the Department of Law in 2017. The Department is enriched with a group of young, enthusiastic, and conscientious full-time faculty members and guest lecturers with a proven track record of academic excellence. With complete devotion, the teachers have been helping the students to strive for excellence. Under the teachers’ leadership, the students have made their mark in different sectors of legal profession. The Department offers a two-year Masters of Law (LL.M.) programme of 82 Credits with two specializations groups comprising of:
- 1. Criminology and Criminal Law
- 2. Human Rights Laws
To ensure that the students develop a critical and analytical bent of mind, the Department regularly organises workshops, seminars, and lecture series with eminent Professors of Law, jurists, and senior lawyers. The students are encouraged to conduct research in different legal fields and publish these in reputed journals. Apart from academics, the students are also motivated to serve the society by organising legal aid awareness programme.
