Chandraprabha Saikiani Centre for Women Studies of Tezpur University organized an Extension activity on the theme “Accelerate action” on the occasion of International Women’s Day, on 8th March 2025 under the guidance of head of the department Prof Dr. Madhurima Goswami, Dr. Mousumi Mahanta and Dr. Ivy Daimary who also accompanied the students for the activity to spread awareness about health, hygiene, and work culture among women in rural areas. The students of the centre actively participated in the activity. 63 village members attended the programme. It was conducted in the Borbil Kachari Gaon, a rural village in Sonitpur district. The students conducted various activities and community engagement programs with the women and children of the village, which includes awareness program on “Reproductive Health and Menstrual Hygiene” and “Women and Work Culture” followed by an interactive quiz session on the mentioned topics. The students of the centre performed a skit on “Sexual Harassment, Prevention and Redressal in Unorganized Sector”. Then the community women of the village were also asked to perform skits on various topics like reproductive health, hygiene and sanitation where they showed active participation in it. They even shared their own experiences that how they are not paid enough to meet their needs and feed their family. And after these activities the students conducted a small interactive session regarding the awareness on the upcoming project “Economic Empowerment of ST population through Science, Technology and Innovation (STI Hub) via Bamboo Intervention” with the villagers where they can engage themselves in various bamboo craftwork and selling bamboo products. The women in the village expressed their gratitude and thankfulness towards the entire centre and the students for sharing such valuable knowledge with them, and also showed their willingness to meet and work in the upcoming project with the centre.
