DST GATI

Gender Advancement for Transforming Institutions (GATI) is a new initiative by Department of Science and Technology, Government of India. The GATI Pilot was launched by the hon’ble president of India on the National Science Day 28th February 2020. Tezpur University has been recommended by DST, Govt. of India to join a group of 30 institutions for participation in the GATI pilot. Tezpur University is a signatory to the GATI Charter and has committed to adopt to the guiding principles of the GATI pilot. A GSAT (Gender Self-Assessment Team) has been constituted to steer the working of the Pilot Project. The underrepresentation of women in science is a matter of serious concern across the world. It is a moral responsibility for all the higher educational institutions to provide equal opportunity to all and facilitate an inclusive environment. Women in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) disciplines face several implicit and explicit biases and challenges in climbing up the academic and administrative hierarchy. GATI commits to create a safe, nurturing and enabling environment for women and develop action plans for removing these structural biases hindering the progression of women in STEM fields.
