On 10th March 2025, Chandraprabha Saikiani Centre for Women Study organized an online talk on ‘Career Progression’. Babita Baruah, CEO of VML India, an esteemed leader in the corporate world and a speaker at the India Conference at Harvard Business School, delivered an impactful lecture. Speaking on the theme of "Career Progression", Babita emphasized key principles such as resilience, continuous learning, and the importance of staying grounded in one’s values. Throughout the engaging one hour session, she provided valuable insights on navigating the professional world, leaving the audience both inspired and empowered with practical wisdom. Babita Baruah shared six important mantras for building a successful career. She spoke about the importance of finding yourself and understanding who you are at your core. She emphasized maintaining focus amidst distractions. She encouraged being flexible and adaptable to changing circumstances. She stressed the value of continuously gaining knowledge and up skilling. She also highlighted the power of storytelling and effective expression in professional settings. Lastly, she spoke about the need to visualize oneself in the roles and positions one aspire to reach. In addition to these guiding principles, Babita spoke about the hardships that women continue to face in business and other career fields. She addressed the systemic challenges, biases, and societal expectations that often stand in the way of women’s progress. She urged women to voice their thoughts with confidence and to actively ask for what they deserve, whether it be opportunities, recognition, or leadership roles. Her words deeply resonated with the audience, inspiring meaningful conversations on leadership, self-advocacy, and breaking barriers in male-dominated spaces. She concluded her session by leaving the audience with three key takeaways: to always respect yourself, to be confident in who you are, and to make technology your friend while ensuring that your career does not solely define your identity.
