Chandraprabha Saikiani Centre for Women Studies, Tezpur University organized a stakeholders meeting on 23rd April, 2025 to discuss the future course of actions related to the Department of Science and Technology sponsored project “Economic Empowerment Via Bamboo Intervention for Livelihood Amongst ST Population of Borbil Kachari Gaon” Borsola Assam. The project is aimed at improving the livelihood system of ST population using science and technology processes. The interventions used are focused on improving the long term physical, social and economical condition of the Bodo Community. The meeting was chaired by Prof. Shambhu Nath Singh Vice Chancellor of Tezpur University, Prof. Debendra Chandra Baruah and Prof. Rupam Kataki, Department of Energy, Prof. Kamal Uddin Ahamed, Department of Civil Engineering, Prof. Raza Rafiqul Hoque, Dean Academic Affairs, Prof. Mrinmoy Kumar Sarma, Dean Research and Development, Dr. Braja Bandhu Mishra, Finance Officer and Principal Investigator Dr. Madhurima Goswami. The meeting was led by Managing Director of North East Cane and Bamboo Development Council M.C. Omi Ningshen IRS and Project Manager Pulak Mandal. The meeting discussed the possibility of sustainability of the Bamboo intervention via technology based market linkage for the people of Borbil village. A raising demand for engineered bamboo products as sustainable alternative to timber and plastic was suggested by the expert committee. The presentation by the Managing Director of NECBDC highlighted the importance and durability of the bamboo as a natural fibre and also focused on the majority of the development goals coverage via Bamboo intervention. There were suggestions on bamboo farming, bamboo bio char, handicrafts, food products, through improvised technological intervention. The meeting further emphasized to enable the target group to used technology for marketing. The NECBDC and Tezpur University resolved to collaborate on research projects in near future.
