On 12th of March, Chandraprabha Saikiani Centre for Women’s studies, Tezpur University visited Ghana Phulaguri in Sonitpur, Assam. 55 number of participants attended the programme.Dr. Madhurima Goswami, Head, Centre for Women Studies,Tezpur University gave a brief introduction about the centre and started an interactive session where she asked them about their problems, education, employment, and marriages. The women addressed their various problems. The men of the houses have gone to cities like Bangalore, Rajasthan and other places to work in poultry farm and mushroom farming. They expressed their willingness to work but due to lack of education and skills they couldn’t find any work to do. They talked about the visits of political party before election but no progress has been seen yet except for Jal jeevan yojna and a school. They even received ration card this year and the scheme Arun Uday is received by 4 women among the participants. Dr. Mousumi Mahanta gave speech on health, menstruation health, UTI, sexually transmitted diseases, and HIV aids. She asked them to use protection during sexual intercourse. The speaker told them that while menstruation they should use cloths after cleaning it properly. When she asked them about pregnancy facility and what they do when the situation become critical, one woman among them told that Asha comes for check-ups after 3 months and in 5 months they were given an injection. If the situation is critical then they have to arrange a car by themselves and take the women to the hospital. She also asked them keep their toilets clean because the infections are related to urinary tract. Sonali Boro, research scholar talked about women trafficking. She informed how the traffickers tricks the victim and lure them to different place where they are either exploited or sold away. The students presented a skit on cybercrime.
