In the present context, the fight for gender equality is more important than ever. Despite significant progress in recent years, women and individuals of other gender identities continue to face discrimination and unequal treatment in various aspects of their lives. She spoke on the key challenges in achieving gender equality in the present context which is the persistent gender pay gap, limiting their financial independence and perpetuating economic disparities between genders. Additionally, women are often underrepresented in leadership positions, both in the public and private sectors, further exacerbating gender inequalities. Beyond the workplace, gender-based violence remains a pervasive issue that disproportionately affects women and girls. From domestic violence to sexual assault, many individuals continue to experience harm and trauma simply because of their gender. It is essential that society takes a stand against such forms of violence and works towards creating a safer and more inclusive environment for all individuals.
Ultimately, gender equality is not just a women’s issue – it is a human rights issue that affects us all. By working together to dismantle gender inequalities and create a more inclusive society, we can strive towards a future where individuals are judged based on their abilities and character, rather than their gender Dr Ivy Daimary , Research Associate, CSCWS spoke on stereotypes and societal expectations that continue to place constraints on individuals based on their gender. Men are often expected to be strong and stoic, while women are expected to be nurturing and passive. These stereotypes limit individuals’ freedom to express themselves authentically and contribute to a culture of toxic masculinity and gender-based discrimination. She discussed concerns facing girls today and questions on women’s empowerment. She also stated that the actual celebration of International Women’s Day will be fulfilled when women will be empowered in all aspects of their life.
