A five-day Self-Defense training programme

A five-day Self-Defense training program was conducted by Chandraprabha Saikiani Centre for Women’s Studies, Tezpur University from 11th to 15th November to provide a platform for the young women to enable themselves to exercise Self-defense in situation of threat. This program consisted of seven sessions presided over by instructor Prabhsharan Kaur (Krav Maga expert, Delhi) and her team. On 11th Nov,2022 an inauguration of the Self-Defense programme was organized in the community hall,- Tezpur University. Madhurima Das, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Sonitpur district addressed the participants as the chief guest. She encouraged the participants with her motivational speech. Ms.Das emphasized that the Self-Defense training is important for women due to the rising number of crimes against women. The training programme began with 60 number of girl students on the first day .

Session 1- Involved learning basic strikes such as various kinds of punches, kicks, knee strikes and elbow strikes.

Session 2- Involved learning blocks and defense against pushing chokes. Participants were also taught to combine different moves to defend themselves.

Session 3- Included using different techniques to save oneself from kidnapping situations

Session 4- Involved learning defense from bear hugs in both hands in and hands out situation.

Session 5 - Included fighting multiple attackers. Session 6- Involved an elaborate defense against rape situations and finally the last session involves valedictory and recap sessions

These sessions have been immensely helpful for the participants. The students could get an idea about the real-life scenario they might have to encounter and were enlightened on the various ways by which they can defend themselves by using their body parts as their weapon. At last certificates were distributed to the participants by the instructor.
