DEPARTMENT OF PHYSICS

Sixteen years since its commencement in January 1998, Department of Physics has stridden out not only in its post-graduation teaching but also in new frontiers of research. To keep pace with the advancement in science and technology, new special papers have been included with adaptation to new developments within the course content. To preserve this spirit, the Department, in July 2005, started a two-year P.G programme in Nanoscience and Technology. The areas of specialization for post-graduation are: Condensed Matter Physics; Electronics and Photonics; High Energy Physics; and Nano Science and Technology. To develop the students from the graduate level, the Department also started an Integrated M.Sc. in Physics in 2009. Keeping in mind the need of teachers at the school level, the Department has also been running a B.Sc.-B.Ed. programme since July 2011.

Major thrust areas of research of the Department are, Astrophysics, High Energy Physics (Theoretical), Nanomaterials, Neutrino Physics,  Optoelectronics, Plasma Physics, Microwaves and Solid State Ionics.
