The Sports Section of the Tezpur University was established in 1995 - 1996 with limited infrastructure and other sports facilities. The sports complex along with Gymnasium facility came out in the year 1998. First annual meet of the University was held in the year 1997 with 25 Sports & Cultural events. As per decision of the University, one outstanding sports personality is invited to each annual meet for felicitation in the inaugural ceremony. Arjuna Bhogeswar Baruah was graced on the 1st Annual meet as chief guest and received warm felicitation from the University. 13th Annual Meet was held in 2009-10 and concluded successfully in the month of February with more than 60 Sports, Cultural & Literary Events. Former captain of Indian Volleyball team Mr. Abhijit Bhattacharjee graced the occasion as chief guest. In every year, students are allowed to participate different East-Zone and National Sports Events organized by AIU. Sports facilities are also made available in each hostel. Besides, different sports events are organized annually with a University approved schedule.
