At the outset, I congratulate stakeholders of the Physics Department and Tezpur University for completing 25 glorious years of existence with the university's journey. I vividly remember the inauguration day of the department (as a student of the first batch of MSc in Physics) graced by then-renowned scientist Late Prof Raja Ramanna. It was a humble beginning with two permanent faculty members, two ad-hoc faculties, one technical assistant, and two office staff with 14 enrolled students in the postgraduate program in Physics. Today, it has evolved into a dynamic department with 16 full-time faculties, one Inspire faculty, and 8 technical and office staff. Currently, around 120 students study simultaneously in various programs (MSc, Int MSc, BSc/BEd, FYUP) offered under Physics. In addition, more than 60 research scholars are also pursuing PhD in different frontier areas of Physics. In this period, the department has ensembled several feathers in its cap. Faculties of the department have received several accolades at the international and national levels. I am proud to announce that the flag bearer of this department, the Alumni, is making its presence felt across the globe today. With the recent introduction of the National Education Policy 2020, I am very confident that the department will offer more flexibility, introducing interdisciplinary courses for the benefit of students. I wish for the all-around growth of the department. I am convinced that, at its golden jubilee, the department will establish itself globally, achieving new heights with invention and innovation in science and technology. Finally, I welcome and invite you all to visit the department.
