Established in 2014, the Department of Education at Tezpur University is dedicated to preparing students for impactful careers in education. Its Teacher Education Program equips aspiring educators with the essential knowledge, skills, and dispositions needed to thrive as effective and compassionate teachers in our evolving society. The department currently offers five distinct programs. MA in Education: This two-year program provides learners with a comprehensive understanding of education as a field of knowledge, focusing on its cognitive, applied, and innovative aspects. It aims to develop well-rounded academicians, skilled professionals, vibrant teachers, and ardent policymakers with a blend of national and international perspectives. 2-Year B.Ed. Programme: Designed to prepare students for teaching roles in schools, focusing on pedagogical skills and content knowledge. 4-Year Integrated B.Sc.B.Ed. Programme: Offered in collaboration with the Departments of Mathematical Sciences, Chemical Sciences, and Physics, this program aims to produce prospective teachers with a strong foundation in both content and pedagogy. M.Ed. Programme: Launched in the academic session 2024-25 with an intake of 50 students is designed to prepare teacher educators and other education professionals, including curriculum developers, educational policy analysts, planners, administrators, supervisors, school principals, and researchers. The curriculum covers a wide range of topics in educational theory, research, policy, and practice, with an emphasis on developing research aptitude and ethical awareness. Ph.D. in Education: This doctoral program, which began in 2015, focuses on imparting research aptitude to contribute to the existing knowledge in various aspects of education. The program encourages interdisciplinary research and prepares scholars to teach at the university level or pursue research-oriented careers. Priority research areas include Teacher Education, Educational Planning and Management, Gender Studies, Inclusive Education, Language Education, Educational Technology, and Education in North East India, among others.
