Biography
Professor (Dr.) Pritam Deb is a nationally recognized scholar and teacher, renowned in the fields of Intellectual Property Rights (IPR), Patent, PCT, and Trade secrets. He holds the position of the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Ministry of Commerce and Industry Chair on IPR at Tezpur University, a Central University. He is also spearheading the WIPO Technology Innovation and Support Center (TISC) in Tezpur University. With a graduate background in physics, Professor Deb previously coordinated the IPR Cell of the university, playing a pivotal role in patenting university innovations.His commitment to IP education is evident from his tenure at Tezpur University's classrooms since 2012, extending to his presence at conferences and academic campuses across the nation. He has been conducting interdisciplinary course on IPR for the Undergraduate, Postgraduate and doctoral students of Tezpur University. As the innovator, he has written and filed numerous patents and software copyrights. He has authored 160+ publications that includes research papers and book in IPR. His initiatives in fostering industry-academia collaborations have been vital in creating a Pro-Industry translational research platform at the university.
He has been serving as a member of the Patent Agent’s Examination Board of the Indian Patent Office, several apex committees of DPIIT, Govt of India, Advisor to several IP policy development committee of Government and member of selection board of GI Registry, Govt. of India, to mention a few. He has also been involved with the establishment of IPR Cell at different Institutes across the country and has provided guidance in drafting their institutional IPR policies. He has been instrumental in providing technical support and guidance to innovators and creators, fostering an IPR-conscious ecosystem.
His excellence has been recognized with various international and national awards. Recently, he was honored with the Visitor's Award by the President of India for Technology Development in 2020, recognizing his significant contributions to innovation and technology development, His academic contributions are further enriched by several visiting and honorary positions, including the Max Planck Fellow at the Max-Planck-Institut für Eisenforschung in Germany and the APS-IUSSTF Professorship at Rice University, USA.
