To undertake and foster intensive and innovative study and research in Assamese Language, Literature and Culture in their varied dimensions adopting a wide perspective and an all-encompassing worldview.
The holdings of this digital library comprise some select publications of the Centre for Assamese studies, namely, two Srimanta Sankaradeva Lectures (2015-2016), and two special lectures; sÄci bark manuscripts obtained from Barpeta Sattra; classics of Assamese literature like Madhava Kandali’s Ramayana, the complete works of Sankaradeva and Madhavadeva, the Assamese Mahabharata, the works of Rama Saraswati, Ananta Kandali and others; the works of K.K.Handiqui (1898-1982), diaries and private papers of Sahityarathi Lakshminath Bezbaroa (1864-1938), Padmanath Gohain Borooah (1871-1946), K.K.Handiqui(1898-1982), Jyotiprasad Agarwala (1903-1951), Chandrabala Barua (1907-1983), Maheswar Neog (1915-1995), Praphulladatta Goswami(1919-1994) and Ajit Barua (1926-2015) and the 1956 University of Paris Doctor of Science dissertation of Jyotiprasad Medhi (1924-2017); a manuscript Assamese-Hindi dictionary compiled by Jonaram Hazarika (1920-2008), formerly Assistant teacher of Hindi at Jamuguri Girls’ H.E. School; documents relating to the establishment, growth and development of Gauhati University; proceedings of various sessions of Asom Sahitya Sabha and the history of the Sabha; biographies and autobiographies; publications on health and agriculture &c; works on the history of Assam, Assamese language, literature and culture; the vamÅ›avalÄ«s (genealogies) and books, many of them rare and out-of-print, published during 1880-1950 and newspapers and periodicals like The Times of Assam, BÄhÄ«, Ä€sÄm BÄndhav, Ä€sÄm BilÄsinÄ«, Arun, DekÄ Asam, Dainik BÄtori, Awahan, Surabhi, Bihlangani, Ramdhenu, Sadiniya Navayug and Nilachal among others.
