9. Professional Experience :

I am a Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Tezpur University. I had joined the department as a Lecturer in August 1998. In recent semesters I have taught Compiler Design, Natural Language Processing, and Doctoral Research Methodology. Earlier I also taught Operating Systems, Computer Networks, System Software (assembler, linker, loader, etc.), Compiler Design, Data Structures, Distributed Systems, DBMS, and topics of Artificial Intelligence (specifically, NLP).

I regularly guide projects undertaken by MCA, BTech and MTech(IT) students. Also, I have guided summer trainees of BE/BTech programmes.

My current area of research is Natural Language Processing (NLP). My PhD thesis was entitled Unsupervised Acquisition of Morphology of a Highly Inflectional Language. The work primarily focussed on the computational acquisition of the suffixational morphology of the Assamese Language from a unannotated text corpus.

I am involved in various computer system development activities of the University, where my contribution has been in technical planning and software system engineering.

I had worked in Centre for Development of Telematics (CDOT), New Delhi, during the period from March 1994 till August 1998. Till April 1998 I was a Research Engineer , and after that I became a Coordinating Engineer . There I was a member of CDOT's team doing R&D of telecommunication switching products. I was involved in the software part of the products, and more specifically, in the area of Fault Tolerance of the switching systems that CDOT develops. As a Coordinating Engineer, I had to lead a particular group of around ten Research Engineers.

I had worked in ADA Software and Services Pvt. Ltd., Calcutta , during the period from August 1992 till Feb 1994 as a Software Engineer. There I was given to develop CASE tools as well as some parts of large commercial application softwares.

I had worked as a Guest Lecturer in the North Eastern Regional Institute of Science and Technology (NERIST), Itanagar , during the period from January 1992 to May 1992. There I taught courses in BTech and Diploma classes, and also guided Diploma projects.
