Department of Food Engineering & Technology

INTRODUCTION:

The Department was established in the year 2006 with the name of Department of Food Processing Technology for imparting post Graduate education in the area of food processing. With the introduction of B.Tech programme in Food Engineering and Technology (FET) in the year 2010, it was renamed as the Department of Food Processing and Technology. The Department has the support of the ministry of Food Processing Industries (MoFPI), Govt of India, under HRD grant for establishing laboratories to conduct PG and UG courses in the Food Engineering and Technology, and for establishing a Quality Control Laboratory. The Department of Science and Technology (DST), Govt of India has extended support to strengthen the Post Graduate teaching ans research under its FIST programme. gate qualified M.Tech students receive PG scholarship of MHRD through AICTE, whreas of the B.Tech students is considered for felloship from GE Foundations under the Scholar-Leader programme.

Research activities at the Department are supported by various sponosoring agencies like MoFPI, DST, UGC, AICTE and DRDO etc. Various project carried out at the Department aims at developing effective and low-cost techniques for the society. Some developed food products have also been patented by the faculities. Workshops and seminars are organized regularly in the department for knowledge sharing among peers as well as for motivating local youths to start their own enterprises.

Vission:

To create trained and skilled human resources well versed in engineering aspects of food processing to cater the needs of the rapidly growing food processing sector.

Mission:

1. To establish itself as the leader in human resource development for supporting the food processing sector.

2. To provide knowledge and skills for better preservation, processing and value addition to agro-products, with the aim of supporting the producers.

3. To promote research and development for product and process and assurance of high level of hygiene and safety of processed food.

4. To promote food safety laws and regulations for supporting a competitive, modern and safe food market for the consumers.
