Silpakorn Summer School 2023: International Cultural Exchange Program

Department of Cultural Studies, Tezpur University participated in ‘Silpakorn Summer School 2023: International Cultural Exchange Program’ organized by The Faculty of Archaeology, Silpakorn University, Bangkok, Thailand from 23 to 29 July 2023.

A team of four students with accompanying teacher- in -charge Dr. Juri Gogoi Konwar from the Department of Cultural Studies, Tezpur University, participated in ‘Silpakorn Summer School 2023: International Cultural Exchange Program’ organized by The Faculty of Archaeology, Silpakorn University, Bangkok, Thailand, held from 23 to 29 July 2023.

The program holds immense significance in fostering cultural understanding and diplomatic ties between two nations. Through the field trips to various archaeological sites, impromptu group presentations, traditional dance performances of both the countries, participants had the opportunity to delve deep into each other's cultures, celebrating the similarities that bind them and the differences that make each heritage distinctive. A joint paper presented by the students titled, ‘Beyond Borders: Unraveling the Cultural threads of Northeast India and Thailand’ was well received.

The participants had a privileged to learn Thai history and culture, shadow puppetry as an intangible cultural heritage in the Thai Grand Shadow Puppets Museum and indigenous musical instruments of Thai people. The participants also visited Grand Palace in Bangkok, the Nakhon Pathom, Ratchaburi, and Phetchaburi Province. The city's rich historical and spiritual heritage revealed itself in the awe-inspiring temples, where moments of tranquility were found amidst the urban buzz. The kind and hospitable nature of the local people left an indelible mark on everyone, making each encounter an opportunity for cultural exchange beyond the organized activities. The exchange programme aimed to create lasting friendships and pave the way for future collaborations, potentially strengthening diplomatic relations between the two lands.
