Prof. C.R. Maity
President of Toxinological Society of India (TSI)

Prof. C.R. Maity obtained MBBS degree in 1967 from Calcutta University, MD in 1972 from BHU, Varanasi and PhD in 1997 from Calcutta University. He has a vast teaching and research experience of more than 46 years. He was the Professor and Head, Department of Biochemistry, Burdwan Medical College and he also served as Principal of Burdwan Medical College from 1995 to 2001. Prof. Maity was the Director of Medical Education and Ex-officio secretary, Govt. of West Bengal from 2001 to 2005. He was also a member of Public Service Commision, Govt. of West Bengal from 2005 to 2008. Since 2008, Prof. Maity has been serving as the Head of the Department of Biochemsitry, KPC Medical College, Jadavpur, Kolkata. Prof. Maity is the pioneer in snake venom research in India and he has made significant contribution in this field. He has completed seven extramural research projects on snake venom funded by ICMR, UGC, CSIR, DST etc, guided 16 medical students for MD in Biochemistry, and 32 students received Ph.D. degree under the supervision of Prof. C.R. Maity. For his outstanding contribution in snake venom research, he has received several prestigious awards and fellowships from different scientific societies of the country. He has published more then170 research papers in peer-reviewed international journals, more than 100 popular articles and contributed two book chapters. Prof. Maity is the immediate past President of the Medical Sciences (including physiology) section of Indian Science Congress Association and President of Toxinological Society of India (TSI) since the day of its inception to date.
