Recent events
MCJ Department hosts Fulbright Scholar

The department hosted Dr Yusuf Kalyango Jr., Professor of International Journalism and Director, International Institute of Journalism of EW Scripps School of Journalism, Ohio university, USA on  Fulbright Scholar-in-Residence  programme from October 3 to November 11, 2016. During this period Prof. Kalyango conducted a series of intense interactions, workshops with students of MA MCJ (both batches), Ph D scholars, faculty and a general public lecture also. The whole experience was a highly encouraging one for the MCJ fraternity.  Discussions were also held for possible exchange of students and faculty as well in the coming days.

MCJ Department organizes GIAN on Journalism and Society

Further, MCJ Department also hosted Prof. Yusuf Kalyango Jr., Professor of International Journalism of EW Scripps School of Journalism, Ohio university, USA on  GIAN course on ‘Journalism and Society’ from January 2- 13, 2017. It was well-attended including a Ph D scholar from overseas studying in the country including several others from across the country. It was an overwhelmingly-encouraging experience for the participants and everyone went back with a better zeal for their professional life. Prof. Abhijit Bora, HoD was the Coordinator for the programme.

MCJ Department organizes national-level seminar on Media Literacy

The Department organized a national-level seminar on the theme ‘Media Literacy in the age of Convergence’ on January 30, 31st, 2017.  Prominent academics in the field of media and communication – Prof. Biswajit Das of Jamia Milia Islamia, Delhi, Prof. RM Pathak, formerly of MG Kashi Vidyapeeth, Varanasi, Prof. B Balawswamy of Osmania University and Prof. Sanjoy Hazarika, former South East Bureau Chief, The New York Times, Delhi present delivered plenary lectures and interacted with the paper presenters and others scholars who gathered on the occasion. Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Prof. MK Chaudhury formally inaugurated the programme on January 30th. The seminar saw participation of about 30 scholars presenting as well deliberating at length about the various important aspects of the main theme during the two days of the event. It was sponsored by ICSSR, Delhi. Prof. Abhijit Bora, HoD was the Director of the seminar.

MCJ department organizes Photo Exhibition

The Department organized a day-long photography exhibition on January 30th, 2017 as part of the Visual Communication course of the Semester I of MA MCJ programme. It was inaugurated by Prof. Biswajit Das, Director, Centre for culture, Media and Governance of Jamia Millia Islamia, Delhi. The exhibition had on display quite a few good quality photographs showcasing the hidden talent of the students’. There was a highly encouraging footfall during the seminar and some very inspiring comments were also recorded during the event. This is an academic requirement of the Semester I of MA MCJ programme. Mr PJ Daimari, Assistant Professor was the Course Instructor for the programme under overall supervision of the HoD and cooperation of the MCJ fraternity.
