1. Initiatives at departmental/ University Level:
Leading from the front, with a commitment to contribute something in engineering and technical education, some remarkable works have been being done: |
i. Introduction of Innovative Programme: "M.Tech in Bioelectronics"
|
i. In the context of 2020 vision document of the Republic of India, the introduction of Innovative programs in Interdisciplinary and Emerging areas is the need of the hour in order to accelerate the transformation of the present economy into a knowledge-based economy. The Department of ECE at TU started the nation's first Masters of Technology program in Bioelectronics Engineering in 2004 to drive the next generation of disruptive technologies emerging from the cross fertilization between biology and micro/nanoelectronics. Today this program is considered as one of the important innovative programs in the country capable of producing the next generation of engineers that will stay ahead in innovations and be globally competitive. |
i. The facility created under this program serves as a key resource for research in bio-electronics devices, bioMEMs and neurobioengineering. Some research papers related to this area have been published in Canadian Journal on biomedical Engg. and Technology, IEEE EMBS conference, IEEE conference and in the American Journal of Biomedical Science. |
ii. Introduction of Career oriented programme. |
ii. The Department of ECE at TU started the Career oriented programme. "Advanced Diploma in Health care Informatics and Management" supported by UGC under its scheme "Career Orientation Programme" from 2012 with 20 intake. |
ii. Continuing |
|
iii. Introduction of B.Tech. in Electrical Engg. |
iii. Initiative has been taken to introduce B. Tech programme in Electrical Engg. from 2014. |
iii. Being the Coordinator of this programme, Syllabi have been prepared and approved by the Academic council. Ist batch starts from Aug,2014 with 30 intake. |
|
iv. Introduction of B. Voc Programme under National Skills Qualifications Framework (NSQF) , Ministry of HRD, Government of India |
iv. As the coordinator of NSQF, we have carefully studied the Scheme NSQF formulated by HRD, guidelines of UGC and AICTE's scheme uploaded in the AICTE's website. After deliberations from the members and some HoDs of relevant Departments, we have identified seven specializations under five vocational sectors for introduction in the University. (Reference:www.aicte.india.org.education.vocational education and www.ugc.ac.in) |
iv. Syllabi have been prepared for seven vocational specialization and sent for approval. Two specializations namely (i) Food Processing and (ii) Renewable Energy have been approved by UGC (D.O.No.F.2-380/2014(b.Voc.) dated 17 June,2014 (Total Rs. 135.00 Lakh) |

BIOFETOLOGY |
Bio-Electronic devices: Bio-sensors: These devices recently have drawn attention in the rapidly developing field of Bio-sensors. Research work on ISFETs and related bio-sensors(BIOFETs) oriented for use in the fields of medical, clinical, pharmaceutical ,agricultural ,biotechnology etc are rapidly increasing. We are at present involved in modeling and simulations of conventional ISFETS, Cylindrical ISFETS and double gate ISFETS, BIOFETs with potential applications in the field of medical and Bio-informatics. |

DNA Computing |
DNA Computing is a sub field of molecular computing. In this field bio chemical property of DNA is exploited to obtain several computational operations. This field has 20 years of dynamic past. Richard Feynman first proposed the possibility of building a computer at "submicroscopic" level but the development in this field geared up after the first experimental demonstration performed by Leonard Adleman. Recently significant amount of research interests are drawn by analog molecular logic gates.
