Hollongapar Gibbon Sanctuary
The Hollongapar Gibbon Sanctuary is located in Mariani, Assam. It is spread over 20.98 sq. Km of area. Gibbon is famous because we find 7 primate species of the world sharing a common habitat i.e. it is home to Hoolock Gibbons, the only ape species found in India, Bengal Slow Loris, the only nocturnal primate found in NortEast India, apart from these other primate species includes the Stump-Tailed Macaque, Northern Pig- Tailed Macaque, Eastern Assamese Macaque, Rhesus Macaque and Capped Langur. The sanctuary is equally rich and diverse in birds, mammals, flora, and butterfly species. Indian Elephants, Royal Bengal Tigers, Leopards, Jungle cats, Civets, Malayan Giant Squirrels etc. roam in this sanctuary. |
