Tilinga Mandir

 

 

Tilinga mandir, the name itself creates a picture in our mind how the mandir will be. One can identify the temple by the bells of different size hanging all around a peepal tree and the temple. The temple in itself was not a grand one but the faith of its devotees has given it its status. Tilinga mandir situated at Bordubi 7kms from Tinsukia town. It is believed that if a prayer in this temple gets fulfilled, then one must promise to revisit the temple and offer a bell and tie it around the Peepal tree. This temple is nearly half a century old.
It is believed that some tea garden workers around the area noticed a ‘shivalinga’ emerge out of the ground near the people tree. With that they decided to built a shiv temple and gradually tilingamandir evolved. Devotees believe that whatever you wish in this temple it gets fulfilled and in return a bell should be offered and that answers the question of the millions of bells. Gradually the temple came to be known as the tilingamandir that fulfils anyone’s wish who visit the temple and ties bell around the peepal tree. Each of the bell represent a wish fulfilled. And by the bulk number of bells one can make sure that lots of wishes are fulfilled. Even pigeons and trishul are also offered here. Trishul which is lord shiva’s trident is speared around the premises of the temple here and there. As monday is considered as the perfect day to worship lord shiva. So the temple gets highest number of devotees that day.
The peepal tree where all the bells are tied couldn’t take the heavy load of the bells tied all over it and it started to die. So in order to hold on to the legend environment activist step in to save the tree. And from then on devotees are not allowed to tie bells in the tree. A iron bars has been specially erected for tying bells.
