Tilinga mandir, the name itself
creates a picture in our mind how the mandir will be. One
can identify the temple by the bells of different size
hanging all around a peepal tree and the temple. The temple
in itself was not a grand one but the faith of its devotees
has given it its status. Tilinga mandir situated at Bordubi
7kms from Tinsukia town. It is believed that if a prayer in
this temple gets fulfilled, then one must promise to revisit
the temple and offer a bell and tie it around the Peepal
tree. This temple is nearly half a century old.
It is believed that some tea garden workers around the area
noticed a ‘shivalinga’ emerge out of the ground near the
people tree. With that they decided to built a shiv temple
and gradually tilingamandir evolved. Devotees believe that
whatever you wish in this temple it gets fulfilled and in
return a bell should be offered and that answers the
question of the millions of bells. Gradually the temple came
to be known as the tilingamandir that fulfils anyone’s wish
who visit the temple and ties bell around the peepal tree.
Each of the bell represent a wish fulfilled. And by the bulk
number of bells one can make sure that lots of wishes are
fulfilled. Even pigeons and trishul are also offered here.
Trishul which is lord shiva’s trident is speared around the
premises of the temple here and there. As monday is
considered as the perfect day to worship lord shiva. So the
temple gets highest number of devotees that day.
The peepal tree where all the bells are tied couldn’t take
the heavy load of the bells tied all over it and it started
to die. So in order to hold on to the legend environment
activist step in to save the tree. And from then on devotees
are not allowed to tie bells in the tree. A iron bars has
been specially erected for tying bells. |
