Umiam is a artificial lake located in Meghalaya. It came into existence after the construction of Umiam dam for the Umiam-Umtru Hydroelectric Power Project in the early 1960’s. The lake has given birth to a man made ecosystem that supports wildlife in and around the lake. It has become popular among tourists due to its accessibility, scenic beauty and various water sports facilities made available by the Orchid Lake Resort which is located on the shore of the lake.
