About us

The DBT funded-Bioinformatics Infrastructure Facility (BIF) at the Department of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology (MBBT), Tezpur University, was established in the year 2007 under the Biotechnology Information System Network (BTISnet) scheme of the Department of Biotechnology, Govt of India to promote innovation in biology with the aid of Bioinformatics. Since its inception, BIF is imparting training in the field of bioinformatics to M.Sc Molecular Biology and Biotechnology students, which is a mandate of the Department of Biotechnology, Govt. of India. To augment this, BIF has also started an e-Learning Management System (e-LMS) and a quarterly e-newsletter entitled ‘Tezubioin’ in 2011 and 2012 , respectively.

BIF has taken large strides since its establishment.It has been relentlessly making efforts to enhance the bioinformatics skills of students by providing state of the art computing facilities with the world’s premier Bioinformatics software packages. Besides accelerating the Dept’s on-going research, the BIF plays a central role in opening new avenues in

• Analysis of DNA/Protein sequence & structural data
• Drug designing for Mycobacterium tuberculosis
• Molecular evolution Studies
• Structure Based Drug Design or Docking
• Study of evolution of transposons in prokaryotic genomes

The facility aims not only educational and research initiatives, but also vouches for Human resource development in the areas of bioinformatics by conducting Training programmes for staff, students and community.
